The Talyllyn Railway celebrates the centenary of a Pioneer
Thursday 11 February saw a very special train running on the Talyllyn Railway. Over 50 invited guests turned out to celebrate the centenary of LTC Rolt. 'Tom' was one of the pioneering members that saved the Talyllyn Railway 60 years ago.
In late 19950, with news of the death of the Talyllyn's owner, the future of the line was in doubt. Tom led a group of enthusiasts to form the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society, who took over the running and restoration of the railway in 1951. The rest as they say is history!
To mark the year of Tom's centenary and the 60th anniversary of the society the Talyllyn is hosting a range of events. Today's special train launched this year of celebration. A special exhibition in the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum started today and will be open all year (daily form the 28th March). In may Founders Weekend will celebrate the 59th anniversary of the first train and will see a whole weekend of celebrations!
