Dyfi Bridge - Aberdyfi Community Council
The A487 New Dyfi Bridge

The A487 New Dyfi Bridge project has been under discussion for many years and the final draft proposal was displayed last month at the Plas, Machynlleth. The plans have proved controversial with differing views as to the most appropriate solution to a long-standing problem, but what was displayed represented the last opportunity to comment on any issues of concern. Your Councillors already expressed strong reservations regarding the imposition of a ‘T’ junction where the A493 is planned to join the new A487. It is felt that, in view of the fatal accidents on the        Dolgellau by-pass, resulting eventually in replacement of the ‘T’ junction with a roundabout, the plans for Dyfi Bridge should have included a roundabout from inception. The plans will not, however, feature a roundabout as requested. Your Community Council will register its reservations, in advance of the Welsh Government’s final signing off of the project, in no uncertain terms. We are also concerned about the intention not to impose a 40mph speed limit between Machynlleth and the new junction, but the Police have indicated that they do not feel such a limit is necessary, and the limit will be 60mph. Unless a Public Enquiry is instigated, work should start on the construction programme next year, 2018. Check out the web site below for more details.
